Winthrop University is hosting 18 collegiate teams from across the country.

DeBary Golf and Country Club in DeBary, Fla., will host the 2006 Winthrop University / DeBary Intercollegiate Oct. 29 and 30.

Winthrop University, with its campus in Rock Hill, S.C., is hosting 18 collegiate teams from across the country.  Local school Stetson University will be among the favorites vying for the 2006 crown.

Teams will compete in a 36-hole stroke play competition, with each school represented by five players.  Each day the lowest four scores of the five players will count towards the team score.  After two rounds, a team champion as well as an individual champion will be crowned.

DeBary Golf and Country Club has hosted many local, state, and national events in its 17-year history.  A three-time site for both the US Open Qualifying Tournament and US Senior Open Qualifying Tournament, the fabulous layout has also hosted the 1994 PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament.

Designed by Lloyd Clifton, the Club winds through a vibrant golf community with a layout reminiscent of the Carolinas.  After hosting the successful 2006 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, DeBary Golf and Country Club was awarded the 2007 US Senior Open Final Qualifying Tournament by the United States Golf Association.  Golf Digest annual awards DeBary Golf and Country Club with its prestigious four-star rating.

“DeBary is excited to host for the first time Winthrop’s annual tournament,” says Corey Hamlin, DeBary PGA head golf professional. “  With the golf course in fantastic shape and the support of our Membership, we look forward to an exciting event.”
