Golf course developer and construction company Landscapes Unlimited recently started Phase II of golf course renovations at the private Cullasaja Club in Highlands, North Carolina.
In collaboration with golf course architect Bill Bergin, Landscapes Unlimited will reconstruct 19 bunkers, three greens, and 10 tees boxes during the second phase of the project. The company refashioned several bunkers and rebuilt three greens and 21 tee boxes during the first phase.
Designed by Arnold Palmer and located equidistant between Asheville, North Carolina, and Greenville, South Carolina, the original mountainous championship golf course anchors the Cullasaja Club community. Its golf corridors are carved into the natural landscape, dotted with 100-year-old specimen trees and streams.
“The renovation process went remarkably smoothly because we were all on the same page working toward a common goal,” superintendent Tom Nelson said. “Every person on the Landscapes Unlimited crew took ownership producing new elements to a stout golf course that makes members proud.”
Landscapes Unlimited COO Brian Vitek added that with “guidance from Bill Bergin and support from Tom Nelson, Landscapes Unlimited is making an already great golf course even better. Experienced in the North Carolina mountains, our team inherently understands what’s required in this unique climate. Overlay that with clear expectations from the golf course architect and golf course superintendent, and you have a recipe for great outcomes.
“It’s always an honor to do repeat work for a client — especially in this part of country, where golf feels extra special.”
