The Links at Crowbush Cove and its course superintendent, Nancy Pierce, have been named a chapter winner of a Golf Digest environmental leader in golf award by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.

They were recognized for their environmental stewardship efforts this past year.

Pierce and the Lakeside course will be featured in the February edition of the association's Golf Course Management magazine.

Golf course superintendents and their courses from all over North America that have been named national, chapter or merit winners will be formally recognized Friday, Feb. 11, during the general session of the assocation's education conference and inaugural Golf industry show in Orlando.

In addition, program sponsors will donate funds to The Environmental Institute for Golf in the names of all national and chapter winners.

"These environmental leaders are prime examples of why golf courses are valuable assets to a community," said association president Mark J. Woodward. "I congratulate these golf course superintendents and facilities for their commitment to environmental stewardship and contributions to enhancing the enjoyment of the golf experience."

An independent panel of judges representing national environmental groups, turfgrass experts, university researchers and members of the golf community conducted the award selections.

The award recognizes golf course superintendents and their courses for overall course management excellence in the areas of resource conservation, water quality management, integrated pest management, wildlife/habitat management and education/outreach. In addition, these categories are judged on sustainability, criticality, originality and technology implementation/use.
