Courses in the news

From Phoenix, Ariz., to Bet Shean, Israel, golf courses, architects and management companies are making news.

Design group works on two projects
Phoenix – Golf course architectural firm Forrest Richardson & Associates is working on two projects. In Puerto Penasco, Mexico, the firm is developing the first 18-hole course in the seacoast town. The course will feature 100 percent dwarf seashore paspalum turfgrass.

The firm also is restoring the Wigwam Resort, a 1970s Robert Trent Jones, Sr. course (36-holes) that will include a practice range and a 20,000-square-foot putting course. Landscapes Unlimited is the builder on the project.

Course planned in Israel
Bet Shean, Israel – Kibbutz Hamadia and the Louis R Goldman Family Trust intend to build a golf development in the Bet Shean Valley. Both sides are in the process of due diligence. Construction of the golf course is scheduled to begin in early 2006. The course will be an 18-hole, par-72 championship layout with a school and practice facility. William Goldman of Pacific Grove, Calif., was named managing partner of the Jordan River Golf Development Co. More information is at jordanrivergolfclub.com.

KemperSports manages Desert Falls
Hermiston, Ore. - The developers of Desert Falls Golf and Country Club selected KemperSports to manage their semiprivate championship course. Currently under construction, the course is scheduled to debut in 2006 as the featured attraction of a 374-home development project. Designed by Calgary-based architect Gary Browning, the 18-hole desert-style course stretches more than 7,000 yards over terrain highlighted by lakes and waterfalls, elevation changes and vistas.

Meadowbrook Farms launches privatization plan
Katy, Texas - Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club, a Greg Norman signature golf course, launched a privatization plan. Heritage Golf Group owns and operates the club, which opened in 1999. The 18-hole championship-style golf course can be played from 5,000 to 7,100 yards with multiple tees. The par-72 course is nestled among hardwood trees, creeks, lakes and wetlands terrain and is framed by native prairie grasses and wildflowers. Among the facility’s most notable features are its GN-1 (hybrid Bermudagrass) tees, fairways and roughs.
