Middlefield, Conn. – Lyman Orchards Golf Club will allow girls ages 17 and under to play for free when accompanied by a paying adult from through 15, as part of the National Golf Course Owners Association’s “Take Your Daughter to the Course Week” initiative.
This opportunity is available on a first-come, first-serve basis Monday through Friday any time after 3 pm.
“Young women who learn to play the game build self-esteem and confidence through their participation," says national Take Your Daughter to the Course spokesperson Suzy Whaley. “It is a game that spans generations and professions that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.”
Lyman Orchards, set on a 1,100-acre farm in central Connecticut, houses two regulation length courses designed by Gary Player and Robert Trent Jones Sr. Known for being a strong test from the 7,011-yard back tees, Golf Digest rated the Jones Course as the eighth best public facility in the state in 1996. The Player Course, opened in 1994, has hilly fairways and numerous doglegs and blind shots.

“Take Your Daughter to the Course Week” is presented in cooperation with the LPGA, LPGA-USGA Girls Golf, Executive Women’s Golf Association and Golf For Women magazine. Last year, more than 1,000 courses and 16,000 girls participated in this event. Organizers anticipate nearly 1,200 courses nationwide will participate in 2005.
