Course News: Newport Dunes opens

The newly constructed Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course at Newport Beach and Golf, an 1,800-acre resort community on Texas’ Mustang Island, opeedn its doors for play Sept. 4. The facility will host a grand opening event on Oct. 18. The 18-hole layout, named Newport Dunes, is part of the first phase of construction at the coastal destination.

In Golf Magazine’s September issue, its annual "Top 100 Courses You Can Play" feature ranked eight OB Sports-managed courses. We-Ko-Pa Golf Club debuted at No. 44 for its Saguaro course and No. 35 for its Cholla course. Five other OB-managed golf facilities were honored in the "Best Courses Near You" rankings. Both courses, Players and Celebrity, at Indian Wells Golf Resort were ranked 13th and 16th respectively in California. Eagle Mountain Golf Club came in at No. 18 in Arizona. Three Crowns Golf Club earned the 4th spot in Wyoming. Longbow Golf Club made the 30th spot in Arizona, and Langdon Farms Golf Club was ranked No. 14 in Oregon.

Trump National Golf Club in Westchester County, N.Y., has promoted Dan Scavino from general manager to executive vice president and general manager. Scavino, 32, graduated from Plattsburgh State University in 1998 and has worked for Coca-Cola, where he had three promotions in four years, and in the pharmaceutical industry, with Galderma Labs. But he always wanted to return to a career path in golf, so in the winter of 2004 Scavino joined the Trump Organization and has held various positions at Trump National, Westchester. Scavino is a member of the Club Managers Association of America, along with the Metropolitan Club Managers Association.

Callawassie Island Club, Okatie, S.C., completed the first phase of a three-part, $4 million renovation project on Monday when its Magnolia Course reopened for play, The Island Packet reports. The club features a 27-hole golf course designed by Tom Fazio. The project includes restoring all 27 greens to their original dimensions, leveling all teeing areas and contstructing new ones ad needed and replacing the three courses’ irrigation systems.
