Representatives from Dataw Island, S.C., recently unveiled the majorly renovated second green of their Tom Fazio-designed Cotton Dike course. The renovation included the repositioning of the green slightly to the left of its previous location to provide better sunlight, building it to USGA specifications to improve drainage and playability, increasing the size and number of usable pin locations and contouring the surrounds for playability. The $80,000 project took three weeks to construct and 75 days to grow in.
Tullymore Golf Club, the Jim Engh design located at St. Ives Resort in Stanwood, Mich., opens its new $7 million clubhouse today. The 13,000 square foot stone, glass, and wood clubhouse is the centerpiece of a new $50 million residential recreation community.
Forsgate Country Club, Monroe Township, N.J., will host The Sovereign Bank Charity Golf Classic Sept. 22-23, 2008. The event will raise funds for The Forsgate Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting worthwhile causes throughout New Jersey. Nancy Lopez will headline the Sovereign Bank Charity Golf Classic and will be joined by fellow LPGA and World Golf Hall of Famer Amy Alcott and Champions Tour player Fuzzy Zoeller. Golf broadcaster David Feherty will serve as master of ceremonies.
Golf Magazine ranked Saddle Creek Resort’s Carter Morrish-designed golf course No. 12 among California’s best public-access courses in its September issue. Saddle Creek is located in Copperopolis, Calif.
La Torretta Del Lago Resort & Spa in Montgomery, Texas, formerly Del Lago Resort, is getting set to debut its golf course and clubhouse in October. Both facilities are being redesigned as part of a $130 million property renovation and expansion spearheaded by new ownership and the management of French Quarter Hospitality.
