Course helps battle wildfire

North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif., assisted efforts to extinguish wildfires by providing water from a pond to the Ventura County Fire Department.

On Sept. 29, a wildfire came very close to North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif. Ventura County Fire Department’s water dropping helicopter utilized the pond on No. 9 Oaks Course to help ground firefighters extinguish the blaze that threatened homes and the surrounding area.

In the event the fire would encroach, the golf course was closed. Within the day, firefighters from across California had the Westlake Village/Thousand Oaks fire under control and there was no fire damage to the course.

The wildfire, which started in Los Angeles County Sept. 27, charred more than 24,000 acres and destroyed three homes across two counties.
