Charles Scott Cloud, a member of the golf course builders community, died May 7. He was in the hospital recovering from a motorcycle accident.
Cloud was born Feb. 26, 1948 in Santa Monica, Calif. After graduating from Venice High School in 1966, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He spent two tours of duty in Vietnam: the first year as a heavy equipment operator near Saigon and the second year as a helicopter door gunner. In 1969 Cloud was honorably discharged and began working full time at Formost Construction Co., based in Temecula, Calif. He then specialized in golf course irrigation. The courses worked on during that period are known everywhere.
Cloud was known for many things. His generosity, fairness, hard work, honesty, integrity, and extensive knowledge of the golf industry stand out among them. His worldwide travels and ability to mingle with presidents, royalty and government officials was amazing.
He is survived by his mother, Jean Cloud, brothers, Gary and Kent, wife Alice, son Scott, daughter, Heidi Morris and six grandchildren.
Services were held May 14. The family notes that one of Cloud's favorite charities is Vietnam Veterans of America.
