Cooperstown, N.Y. – The Leatherstocking Golf Course at The Otesaga Resort has been awarded 4 ½ stars by Golf Digest, received the second highest overall rating for public courses in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut by Zagat and ranked “one of the 10 best public courses in the state” by Golfweek. Further, The Otesaga, located in Cooperstown, NY, was voted one of the 50 top U.S. golf resorts by readers of Condé Nast Traveler, in recognition of the course’s design and level of difficulty, as well as of the quality of accommodations and dining at the resort.
The 18-hole Leatherstocking Golf Course, designed by Devereux Emmet in 1909, has been recognized for its commitment to high environmental standards and preservation of wildlife habitat. Audubon International officially designated Leatherstocking a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary,” under its Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System, a program supported by the United States Golf Association.
Leatherstocking Golf School
Under the direction of PGA member Dan Spooner, the resort offers instruction and facilities at the Leatherstocking Golf School. Two- and four-day schools or individual lessons are available with PGA member and instructor Ron Philo, Sr. Featured on The Golf Channel, Philo directs The Leatherstocking Golf School at the championship Leatherstocking Golf Course’s private learning center. Spooner, a former “Player of the Year” in the Northeast New York PGA section, also is available for lessons.
