Contech announces internal reorganization

The construction product company will integrate its field marketing and sales teams.

Contech Construction Products Inc. announces the integration of the field marketing and sales teams, the streamlining of the operating divisions and the appointment of Stephen R. Spanagel as President – Sales and Marketing division and Thomas P. Slabe as President – Bridges and Walls division effective immediately.

Contech’s actions follow a critical analysis of market conditions and the company's structure, efficiency and business opportunities.  The company will combine its field marketing teams, which previously resided in each of the four operating divisions, into one marketing team aligned with the national sales force.  CONTECH also announced the integration of the Bridge and Earth Stabilization divisions’ operations into a more unified, and customer responsive division enabling streamlined communications.

“These alignment actions and newly developed structure are critical to compete in today’s marketplace and to be the true solutions provider that our customers demand in every market we serve,” said Ron Keating, President and Chief Operating Officer.  “Contech will be a stronger, more efficient, more responsive company far surpassing the expectations of our customers and partners.  I am very confident in Steve and Tom and their capabilities.  They are both strong leaders with tremendous experience and market knowledge as well as a proven history of sustained performance at Contech,” said Keating.  “The understanding and insight that they have regarding our customers, products and solutions will enable them to excel in their new positions.”

Subsequently, the following sales and field marketing management changes are also effective:

Jeff Gilkinson is named Vice President – Field Marketing.  Gilkinson joined Contech’s sales organization in 1998 and subsequently held a number of sales and marketing leadership roles.  A graduate of Cornell University with a BS degree in Environmental Engineering, Gilkinson obtained his MBA from the University of North Carolina.

Doug Witten is named Regional Vice President – Great Lakes Region.  Witten joined Contech in 1996 and has progressed through several sales an marketing positions. He holds a BS degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.

Wade Bush is named Vice President  - Strategic Alliances and Southeastern Region and will be responsible for Contech’s business with key partners. Bush will also maintain responsibility for the Southeastern sales region.

Frank Birney is named Area Vice President – Atlantic Region.  Birney joined the former Stormwater Management Inc. in 1999 as a Regional Manager in the Atlantic Region.  Birney holds a BA degree in Management and Psychology from St. Francis College.

Tim Anderson is named Area Vice President – Southeastern & Florida Regions.  Anderson joined Contech in 2000 as a Tensar Specialist and has held a number of management positions.  A graduate of Iowa State University, Anderson has a Bachelors and Masters degree in Civil Engineering.

Phil Colflesh is named Area Vice President – Great Lakes Region.  Colflesh joined the former BridgeTek in 1996 as the Ohio Region Manager.  Colflesh is a graduate of Ohio Northern University with a BS degree in Engineering.

Brian Jones is named Area Vice President – Central Region.  During his 30+ year career at Contech, Jones has held numerous management positions.  Jones holds a BA degree in Communications from the University of Denver and earned his Executive MBA at the University of New Mexico.

Brad Hunemuller is named Area Vice President – South Central Region.  Hunemuller joined Contech in 1987 as a Sales Engineer after graduating from Iowa State University with a BS in Civil Engineering.

Scott Hensley is named Area Vice President – Southwest Region.  Hensley joined CONTECH in 1990 as a Tensar Specialist and has held a number of management positions.  Hensley holds a BS degree in Geology from the University of Arkansas.

Craig Wenzlick is named Area Vice President – Western Region.  Wenzlick has a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at San Diego and joined the former Stormwater Management Inc. in 2004 as a Regional Manager.

Wayne Peterson is named Area Vice President – Northwest Region.  Peterson just celebrated his 20 year anniversary with Contech during which he has held numerous management positions.  A graduate of the University of North Dakota, Peterson holds a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Tim Keilty is named Vice President – Process Development.  Keilty joined the former BridgeTek in 1995 as a Region Manager and is a 1986 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute with a degree in History and a minor in Economics.

In addition, the following Contech division announcements are effective:

Ed Zax is named Vice President – Wall Solutions with responsibility for Keystone Retaining Wall Systems and other structural wall products. He holds  BS and MS degrees in Engineering from the University of Louisville.

Scott Aston is named Vice President – Product & Business Development, Bridge and Wall Solutions.  He holds a BS degree in Civil Engineering from Ohio State University and an MBA from Indiana University.

Mike Bernauer is named Vice President – Products & Business Development, Stormwater Solutions.  Bernauer joined the Contech sales organization in 1987 and has held several leadership positions including Vice President of the Great Lakes sales region.  Bernauer holds a BS degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University.
