Ervin Lovett & Miller announces the completion of the clubhouse at the Amelia National Golf Club, located near the resort communities of Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island.  The clubhouse, designed by Ervin Lovett & Miller, is positioned to overlook the 18th hole and has been conceived to serve the recreational and social needs of the club members and residents of this private, master-planned community.

“The completion of the clubhouse establishes an identity for the Amelia National Golf Club which complements the recently completed Tom Fazio-designed golf course,” said Ervin Lovett & Miller Partner Steve Lovett. “We sought to incorporate elements of the great private country clubs of the early 20th century, where pool, golf, tennis, social activity and dining were created to enhance a desirable, sophisticated lifestyle, and where the social and recreational pursuits of club members were realized.”

The 22,000-square-foot, two-story clubhouse is set on high ground, overlooking three golf holes, a large lake and natural forested preserve.  It is positioned to be tightly integrated with the golf course.

“The design and location are such that the clubhouse has become an integral part of the golf experience, and the golf course provides a great backdrop, and sometimes great theater, for the club,” Lovett said.

As the community planner and landscape architect, as well as architect, Ervin Lovett & Miller was responsible for the layout and design of the community’s roads, home sites, signage, positive integration of lakes and open spaces and, in collaboration with golf course designer Tom Fazio, the routing of the golf course.

“We were walking the property before any lines were drawn on paper or one ounce of dirt was moved, and the master plan took into consideration how all buildings and elements work together, and how the greatest sustaining value could be realized on this site,” Lovett said.

In addition to serving its members as the community’s social and recreational hub, the clubhouse can also maintain economic and functional sustainability.
