Cliffs Communities to sponsor and host an AJGA event

The tournament will be held April 25-27 at the Cliffs at Keowee Falls in Salem, S.C.

The Cliffs Communities will sponsor and host an American Junior Golf Association event for the next three years, the AJGA announced Wednesday. The 2008 AJGA Cliffs Championship will be April 22-24 at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls in Salem, S.C.

The 78-player, 36-hole event will feature the nation’s top junior boys and girls, ages 12-18. The first round will be held Saturday, April 23, with the final round being played Sunday, April 24.

“We are honored to host the level of talent and competition that The American Junior Golf Association is bringing to The Cliffs,” says president of sales and marketing at The Cliffs Communities, Scott Beville.  “The 2008 AJGA Cliffs Championship will be an exciting event and we are looking forward to it.”

The Cliffs at Keowee Falls is the second Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at The Cliffs, featuring rolling, mountainous terrain and spectacular views. Located at the leading edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the heart of the Carolina Preserve on the shores of Lake Keowee, the 160-acre Keowee Falls golf course marries a challenging par-72, 7,171-yard layout with the incomparable aesthetics of a pure, core golf experience.

The Cliffs Communities consist of eight premier, master planned communities and are located in the Carolina Preserve at the southernmost edge of The Blue Ridge Mountains between Asheville, N.C. and Greenville, S.C. Collectively, The Cliffs Communities span 20,000 acres amid over hundreds of thousands of acres of protected forests.

“The AJGA is very excited about our new relationship with The Cliffs Communities,” says Jason Etzen, AJGA executive vice president of corporate partnerships. “Their facilities are unbelievable and our membership will really benefit from this relationship.”

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA, the largest Association of its kind, has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of more than 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and 30 foreign countries.

Titleist, the AJGA’s National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association’s success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, which is in its third decade of support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA’s second Premier Partner.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. More than 160 former AJGA juniors currently play on the PGA and LPGA Tours and have compiled more than 300 wins. AJGA alumni include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Stewart Cink, Davis Love III, Cristie Kerr, Pat Hurst, Paula Creamer, Brittany Lincicome, Morgan Pressel and Julieta Granada.
