Cleveland Metroparks names new golf operations director

Damian Cosby moves over from Anne Arundel County, Maryland, where he oversaw two courses and 140 parks.

Cleveland Metroparks has hired Damian Cosby, PGA, as its new director of golf operations. Cosby will oversee Cleveland Metroparks eight golf courses, including clubhouse operations, golf programs and course maintenance.

Cosby has worked in the golf industry for more than two decades and is a Class “A” PGA professional. He worked most recently as chief of golf operations & park maintenance for Anne Arundel County in Maryland where he oversaw two golf courses and 140 county parks. During his last year there, he was involved in architect Andrew Green’s redesign of Eisenhower Golf Course.

“We’re excited to welcome Damian to lead our golf division that has been an essential part of Cleveland Metroparks since Little Met was built in 1924,” Cleveland Metroparks CEO Brian M. Zimmerman said. “Damian brings over two decades of experience in golf and park management and will be an asset as we continue to offer accessible, high-quality golf experiences for all.”

The news follows a record-breaking year for Cleveland Metroparks golf courses last year. Total golf rounds were up over 32 percent over 2019 as the pandemic and course renovations drew new and returning golfers. Recent renovations on the last nine holes of the 27-hole Seneca Golf Course led to a 54 percent increase in golf rounds at that course over 2019.

“I’m thrilled to join Cleveland Metroparks team and be part of the long history of golf and recreation across the Emerald Necklace,” Cosby said. “I look forward to building upon the unique strengths of all eight of Cleveland Metroparks diverse golf courses and offer high-quality play for the community and beyond.”

Cleveland Metroparks’ eight courses also included Manakiki and Sleepy Hollow, regularly ranked among the top public courses in Ohio.
