Jackson, Miss. – The 2006 Tourism Caring for America cleanup event – sponsored by Tourism Cares for Tomorrow ( www.tourismcaresfortomorrow.com ) – will bring hundreds of tourism industry volunteers from all over the nation to help clean up and rebuild tourism-related sites in Biloxi, Gulfport, D’Iberville and Long Beach, according to the Mississippi Development Authority division of tourism.
If similar Tourism Caring for America events over the past three years are any indication, these volunteers will be a mix of top executives from tour, travel and hotel companies with sales and service personnel from hotels, attractions, restaurants and destinations. These tourism industry volunteers will spend their days reviving tourism sites and their nights sleeping on cots in tent cities and community centers.
“Mississippi’s Gulf Coast residents, businesses and the state are grateful for the selfless efforts of people and organizations such as Tourism Cares For Tomorrow,” says D. Craig Ray, MDA Tourism Division director. “In addition to the return of excellent golf on the coast, several of our resort casinos are open for action with others scheduled to be back online soon.”
This altruistic event is the latest in non-stop renewal efforts on the coast since last August’s hurricanes.
Award-winning golf courses such as Shell Landing (Davis Love III design), Grand Bear (Jack Nicklaus), The Bridges Golf Resort at Casino Magic (Arnold Palmer) and Great Southern (Donald Ross) are a fraction of the now-open options available to golfers and indicative of the coast’s collective golf quality.
