Chemilizer Products recently appointed Mike Buchanan general sales manager. Buchanan, a former sales manager for New Advantage, a stocking distributor of electronics components, oversees Chemilizer’s expansion into the water treatment, fertigation, and swimming pool markets, as well as the company’s well-established animal health presence.
Buchanan brought to Chemilizer a strong track record in technical sales. During his tenure at New Advantage and in previous positions, he trained outside sales representatives to supply companies with complex electronics components.
Buchanan inherits the tasks of cultivating relationships with Chemilizer’s existing dealers and expanding the company’s presence into new markets. However, he plans to strengthen Chemilizer’s customer relations philosophy before tackling a range of applications.
“It starts from within,” he says. “My first priority is to ensure a well-trained sales and customer service staff capable of developing long-term relationships with clients.”
For 10 years, the Detroit native owned a manufacturers’ representative firm specializing in the automotive industry. He believes his unique awareness of the dynamics between manufacturers and distributors also benefits his sales staff.
“It’s all about matching specific needs to specific solutions,” says Buchanan. “It’s a rifle approach, not a shotgun approach. You really have to know the product in order to build credibility with your solutions.”
Buchanan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics at the University of Michigan before pursuing a Master’s degree in Economics at Wayne State University.
