Seagrove Beach, Fla. – The St. Joe Company announces that the 4th Annual Sacred Heart Charity Classic – played May 9 at Camp Creek Golf Club, the award-winning Tom Fazio course along Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast – raised $200,000 to benefit the Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast.
This celebrity event, sponsored by St. Joe and The Howard Group, doubled the pre-tournament goal of $100,000. Since its inception, this tournament has raised more than $700,000 to benefit the Northwest Florida community.
Lending their support were numerous sports and entertainment celebrities, including Jerry Pate, Joe Durant, Don Reese, Sammy Rachels, Buddy Gardner, Wes Tuck, John Baas, Geno Celano, Kevin Lacey, Shane Supple, Norm Tums and long drive superstar Brian Pavlet, who performed a long-drive exhibition.
“The 4th Annual Sacred Heart Charity Classic was a real tribute to our community and its continued support for high quality, compassionate healthcare,” says Roger Hall, president and c.e.o. of Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast. “We especially appreciate the master sponsorship of The St. Joe Company and the Howard Group.”
Twenty-four teams participated in the “play with a pro” tournament with the foursomes of John Johnson, Corey McKern, Colin McKern, Jim McKern (gross) and Mike Stange, Matt Lindley, John Ward and Howard Schloss (net) taking first place.
A Fazio design, Camp Creek opened in 2001. It was recently named the “No. 1 Florida course of the new Millennium” by Travel+Leisure Golf and ranked No. 8 in Golfweek magazine’s annual “America’s Best State-by-State” survey of roughly 700 Florida courses.
In addition to a unique “dunescape” appearance that includes contoured fairways and sizeable landing areas, the course has large, undulating putting surfaces that are a Fazio signature. With a wetland and lake system, water comes into play on 10 holes.
Camp Creek was created for nearby owners and guests at St. Joe’s WaterColor and WaterSound Beach residential and resort communities. The course was recently recognized for its environmental stewardship through designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System. Superintendent Larry Livingston was similarly distinguished as a certified Audubon Steward.
