Veteran golf writer Howard Ward receives a plaque in recognition of his contributions to golf from Paul Jett, certified golf course superintendent from Pinehurst No. 2 and superintendent host of the 1999 and 2005 U. S. Open Championships.

“We in the golf industry are extremely grateful for the way in which Howard has covered the game for so long,” Chuck Borman, Carolinas GCSA executive director says. “We respect his integrity and professionalism and golf is better for the exposure he has given the industry over many years. Golf brings a lot to any community in terms of jobs, tax revenues and green space but Howard has always been very good at telling the personal stories of the game.”

The Carolinas GCSA has close to 1,800 members in North and South Carolina and provides services to advance the professional interests of its members. Paul Jett, a current association board member and superintendent at Pinehurst No. 2, site of the 1999 and 2005 U. S. Open Championships, made the presentation.

Ward has covered golf for The Pilot newspaper in the Pinehurst area since the mid-90s. Previously, he spent more than 40 years with the nearby Fayetteville Observer.
