Hazeltine National Golf Club, site of the 2016 Ryder Cup, has chosen Better Billy Bunker for their bunker renovation. After testing different construction methods, Hazeltine followed in the footsteps of 2014 Ryder Cup host Gleneagles Golf Club and determined BBB was the best choice. After a trial bunker was installed in 2013, superintendent Chris Tritabaugh reported it performed “as advertised.” By surviving as much as 5-inch rain events with minimal washouts, the staff and members got a glimpse of what they can expect when their entire course features Better Billy Bunkers. BBB licensed installer Duininck Golf is the contractor on the project and are nearing completion ahead of schedule. This renovation will eliminate a majority of the hassle typically associated with bunker preparation prior to and during a major event. As witnessed at the 2014 PGA Championship at Valhalla, well-performing bunkers during intense rain events are essential!
