Me and a few of my closest friends got together for a little golf at Barefoot Landing today. Our little outing was a classic example of how the Carolinas GCSA Conference and Show continues to exceed expectations. Let me explain...
First, against all odds and every weather forecast out there, it did not storm, tornado, hail or rain frogs and locusts as had been predicted. Turned out to be a most excellent day for golf.
Second, at an event that will likely shatter records for attendance, exhibit space and education seats filled, the golf championship followed suit with 330 participants spread over three courses (Norman, Love and Fazio) at Barefoot. It truly is a one-day version of the same first-class golf experience that the GCSAA Championship provides (thanks to great support from Smith Turf & Irrigation).
Third, just when I thought I knew everybody down here I met more fine folks today, including my partners, Doug Walter, super at Bright's Creek, and his senior assistant, Josh Krigbaum. We were also fortunate to have my favorite Aussie journalist, Trent Bouts. It still blows my mind that Trent, one of our finest industry writers, started his career as a cricket reporter. Go figure.
Fourth, as many of you know, I genuinely suck at golf. Trent, Doug and Josh carried me around the course all day along. Then on the par-3, 182-yard 17th on the Fazio course, I closed my eyes, took a ridiculous swing, miraculously made contact and knocked it 10 feet from the pin. Birdie... and proximity prize for closest to the pin. I'm now the proud owner of a Yeti cooler featuring the logos of the Carolinas GCSA, STI and Club Car. Again, go figure.
Fifth... we're just getting started. Stay tuned to Twitter and to tomorrow's enewsletter to get all the fun and news from the biggest show ever in the Carolinas!
