Beginning in January, Michael Kernicki will join Canterbury Golf Club in Shaker Heights, Ohio, as head golf professional. He replaces Craig Murray, a 25-year veteran, upon his retirement.
A 31-year member of the PGA, Kernicki has served as the head golf professional at several prestigious private clubs throughout the country. His career began in 1974, serving as assistant professional to Phil Greenwald and George Fazio at The Jupiter Hills Club in Tequesta, Fla., and most recently at Old Palm Golf Club, a Raymond Floyd-designed course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Some of Kernicki’s honors include twice being named the Private Club Merchandiser of the Year for the Michigan PGA and Southern Florida Chapter, 1985 and 2000 Michigan Section PGA Golf Professional of the Year, and 2000 Michigan Section PGA Bill Strausbaugh Award Recipient. In 2005, Kernicki also co-authored the book “Golf’s Short Game for Dummies.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Kernicki to Canterbury Golf Club,” says Eric Rhodes, general manager/COO of Canterbury Golf Club. “His private club background, experience and golf knowledge will complement our club’s mission to create a world-class golf experience for both members and guests. He certainly has big shoes to fill and a busy year ahead with our hosting of the 2009 Senior PGA Championship, but we have complete confidence that Mr. Kernicki will rise to the occasion.”
