Camp Creek to host amateur qualifier

The United States Golf Association selected Camp Creek Golf Club to host a sectional qualifier Aug. 2 and 3 for the 2006 U.S. Amateur Championship.

Seagrove Beach, Fla. – The United States Golf Association selected Camp Creek Golf Club – a Tom Fazio design developed by St. Joe – to host a sectional qualifier Aug. 2 and 3 for the 2006 U.S. Amateur Championship.

The USGA’s oldest championship, the U.S. Amateur was first played in 1895 at Newport Golf Club in Rhode Island. It is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA. The top finishers will receive invitations to play in the 2006 U.S. Amateur Championship Aug 2.1 through 27 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.

“We are extremely excited to host this prominent and important event for the USGA,” says Will Hopkins, general manager at Camp Creek. “We are ecstatic to have received such a positive response from the USGA and we believe Camp Creek serves as an excellent proving ground for players attempting to gain entry into the U.S Amateur Championship.”

Qualified entrants will play from Camp Creek’s championship tees, which measure 7,159 and feature one of Florida’s highest slope ratings, at 145.

The entry deadline for this event will be announced at a later date and forms will be available online at www.usga.org. Only non-professional golfers with a USGA Handicap Index of 2.4 or below are eligible to enter any of the U.S Amateur Qualifiers. For more information, visit www.usga.org or www.usamateur.org.
