Briggs & Stratton launches “tell us your story” contest

Customers encouraged to share their memories as the company celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Milwaukee – Briggs & Stratton has powered the outdoor life of people throughout the world for 100 years. Now the company is asking customers to share some of those memories.

As part of its centennial celebration, the world’s largest manufacturer of air-cooled gasoline engines for outdoor power equipment is sponsoring a “tell us your story” contest, one of many events scheduled to mark the company’s century of innovation and success. The winning entry will receive the “ultimate garage package,” which includes a lawnmower, trimmer, generator, leaf blower, lawn tractor, rear tine tiller and other Briggs & Stratton products, valued at $7,500.

“We know that many of our customers feel a connection with our company because our products have been a part of their lives for so long,” said John Shiely, chairman, president and c.e.o. of Briggs & Stratton. “They’ve come to know the Briggs & Stratton name because it’s on their lawn mower engines, pressure washers and other products using small engines. Now, we want to hear their stories.”

Entries will be judged on originality, creativity and storytelling quality; how well the entrant exhibits passion for Briggs & Stratton products; and the contestant’s specific, relevant and compelling example of how Briggs & Stratton products enrich their life. Entries should capture the core values of Briggs & Stratton: a can-do spirit, a satisfying feeling from a job well done, and a desire to pass on knowledge to the next generation.

Some entry examples could include starting a lawn-mowing business powered by Briggs & Stratton engines to save money for college or maintaining a pristine lawn – the envy of the neighborhood – with Briggs & Stratton outdoor equipment. To enter, contestants must be 21 years of age or older and submit a written entry under 200 words and/or a photo online at http://www.briggsandstratton100years.com by July 31, 2008. Complete entry rules are posted on the site as well. In August, Briggs & Stratton will award the winning storyteller with the “ultimate garage package.”
