Far Hills, N.J. -- Golf's Golden Age: Robert T. Jones, Jr. and the Legendary Players of the '10s, '20s and '30s, a commemorative book celebrating the 75th anniversary of Bob Jones winning the Grand Slam in 1930 as well as his playing contemporaries, will be published in June. The book is a cooperative project of The United States Golf Association Museum and Archives and the National Geographic Society.
Written by Rand Jerris, director of the USGA Museum and Archives, the book highlights Jones' historic year through the photographs of the renowned George S. Pietzcker and features essays about the great players with whom Jones competed. Most of the Pietzcker photos are from Bob Jones' private collection, which his family donated to the USGA in 1980.
Arnold Palmer, the only national chairman of the USGA Members program since its inception in 1975 and a three-time USGA champion, authored the foreword in which he said: "This book is a literary treasure. (It) rekindles memories of a bygone era when golf was still in its early phases of development into one of the nation's greatest leisure activities."
USGA staffers Marty Parkes, Rhonda Glenn and David Normoyle also contributed sections of the text.
