Schmidt will oversee all club operations as well as staff of the 18-hole private golf course designed by Colorado-based designer Jim Engh, his first in Arizona.

In addition, the Scottsdale resident has been appointed vice president of club operations for Sunbelt Holdings, which is developing Blackstone as well as Vistancia in a joint partnership with Shea Homes.

Named for the volcanic rock indigenous to the area, Blackstone will feature upscale amenities, including a 30,000-square-foot Bing Hu-designed clubhouse, and activities not only geared for the golfer but for those who enjoy a variety of recreational opportunities.

“An exceptional level of service from the staff and quality amenities that are exclusively available for members and their guests … that’s what Blackstone is all about,” says Schmidt.

“My initial impression of the layout of the golf course is that it’s truly outstanding.”  Schmidt, who has a wife and two sons, has had a certified club manager designation for the past 19 years.
