Billy Casper Golf wins license agreement for Saxon Woods Golf Course

Westchester native was hired as head golf professional at the Scarsdale, N.Y. club.

Billy Casper Golf ("BCG") - the nation's fourth largest course management firm - today announces Westchester County recently awarded the company a license agreement for professional services to manage golf operations and provide agronomic consultation at Saxon Woods Golf Course in Scarsdale, N.Y.

BCG hired Westchester native Ralph Garafano as head golf professional for the course. An NAIA All-American golfer at College of Boca Raton in Florida, Garafano is one of the area's best teaching professionals and an accomplished player with course records at two Westchester layouts - Brae Burn Country Club (63) and Lake Isle Country Club (63).

"Ralph is an outstanding, young golf professional with a reputation for fantastic customer service and a passion for the game," says Brian O'Hare, BCG's Northeast Regional Vice President. "Billy Casper Golf is committed to player development programs and Ralph has demonstrated great ability working with the wide spectrum of players who enjoy the Westchester County courses."

From group clinics to individual lessons to opportunities to help beginners take up the sport, Saxon Woods will offer an array of PGA instruction for all golfers seeking to enhance their performance. Formerly the head golf professional at Hudson Hills, Garafano is a PGA-certified Class A-1 Head Professional and an active member of the Metropolitan Golf Association.

"Ralph is a great instructor and his teaching skills can be seen in the accomplishments of his players," says O'Hare. "Several of his former students have amassed solid amateur records, but Ralph says he is proudest when one of his pupils breaks 100 or 90 for the first time."

In addition to hiring Garafano, BCG will consultant on agronomic practices at Saxon Woods. The firm will also make recommendations on budgeting and maintenance, as well as advise on short- and long-term capital priorities. BCG agronomic experts will regularly visit Saxon Woods to monitor progress of course conditions and consult on such matters as disease prevention and weather-related developments.

"BCG's success maintaining and enhancing course conditions at Maple Moor and Hudson Hills gives us every confidence in its ability to help deliver a well-maintained product at Saxon Woods," says Westchester County parks commissioner Joe Stout.
