Belton takes over management of city golf course

Belton has severed its relationship with Proformance Golf, which has managed the city's Eagle's Landing Golf Course since January 1997.

The city terminated its management contract with the golf-management company from Kansas City, Kan., on Wednesday, saying it repeatedly has failed to complete some financial reports required under the contract.

"There have been ongoing problems getting financial reports on time, and sometimes we've had trouble getting them at all," City Administrator Ron Trivitt said. "It affected our ability to close out accounts each month and maintain property oversight. Without the information required under contract it made it difficult to get all the information needed to close out the accounts."

The Star's calls to Marty Streiff, president of Proformance Golf, Inc., were not returned Friday.

With the termination of Proformance's contract, the city has taken over management of the course. Trivitt said the city extended employment offers to former Proformance employees who wish to join the new management team. The city has hired Jay Kennedy, former golf pro and manager since 1998, to manage Eagle's Landing. Also, Tyler Koch, course superintendent since 1999, will continue in that capacity with the city.

The problem with Proformance did not result in any revenue loss, and no significant changes in the operations are anticipated, Trivitt said.

"Proformance Golf had a management contract with the city, but the golf course has always been a city course," Trivitt said. "We will still have a golf course budget; the only difference is that it will be managed by the city."
