Bayleton OK'd for fairy ring prevention

Fungicide approved for use in prevention of damaging disease during spring and summer months.

Research Triangle Park, N.C. – Sixteen states recently approved a 2(ee) recommendation for use of Bayleton 50 WP fungicide as a preventative treatment for fairy ring in turfgrass, according to Bayer Environmental Science.

The product may be applied as a foliar spray at the rate of 1- to 2-oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. Used as a preventative treatment, Bayleton provides control of fairy ring, a disease caused by a soil-borne basidiomycete fungi.

Fairy ring is identified by its dark green or brown rings that can range in size from a few inches to several feet in diameter. Fairy ring can also lead to the formation of hydrophobic soil conditions.

Applicators may make two applications of Bayleton in the spring, prior to the appearance of disease symptoms, with a 14-day interval. They should extend the interval to 21 days if using the 2-oz. rate of Bayleton on Poa annua putting greens.

States that have approved Bayleton for fairy ring prevention are: Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Bayleton fungicide is a broad-spectrum product registered for control of tough disease problems including dollar spot and snow mold. Working systemically, Bayleton controls and prevents many key fungal diseases for up to 28 days.
The approval allows for tank mixing of Bayleton with an appropriate soil wetting agent to assist with disease control by allowing optimum penetration of the fungicide and also reducing hydrophobic soil conditions.
