Bay Point Marriott Resort will debut its newly redesigned Nicklaus Course at Bay Point to the public Sept. 17. Golfers will have the opportunity to win a Club Car and E-Z-GO golf cart along with other prizes.
Prior to the public opening, the resort hosted an event on Sept. 15, which was attended by lead designer Gary Nicklaus and other local dignitaries.
Nicklaus and senior design associate Chris Cochran led the Nicklaus Design team in creating a layout that transformed the former Lagoon Legend into the Nicklaus Course at Bay Point.
Measuring more than 7,000 yards, the new par-72 Nicklaus Course at Bay Point features modern grasses that provide premier putting surfaces, resulting in faster, smoother greens. It is expected to boast an estimated slope rating between 125 and 145 and a course rating between 70.0 and 73.5.
The new design also features “illusionary” bunkers, which have been strategically placed to tempt golfers through a risk-reward scenario, as well as a variety of fairways with plateaus and uncharacteristic elevation changes unique to the Northwest Florida region.
The Nicklaus Course at Bay Point also serves as a complement to the resort’s recently renovated Meadows Course, which features a challenging yet golf-friendly design. Both golf courses are managed by Birmingham, Ala.-based Honours Golf Company.
