Lake Lanier Islands, Ga. – Renaissance PineIsle Resort has achieved designation as a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System, the educational division of Audubon International. Anthony Williams, director of grounds, has led the effort to obtain sanctuary status on this course and for doing so, Audubon International recognized him for environmental stewardship. Renaissance PineIsle Resort is the 11th course in Georgia and the 549th in the world to receive the honor.

“To reach certification, a course must demonstrate that they are maintaining a high degree of environmental quality in a number of areas,” Williams adds. These categories include: environmental planning, wildlife and habitat management, outreach and education, chemical use reduction and safety, water conservation, and water quality management.
Renaissance PineIsle utilized the talents of many people and organizations to reach this goal. The environmental commitment at the resort is an ongoing mission that begins with Williams.
“I think a successful grounds manager should demonstrate oneness with nature,” says Williams, CGCS, CGM. “They should realize that every action creates a reaction, and commit themselves to environmental excellence.”
The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, endorsed by the United States Golf Association, provides information and guidance to help golf courses preserve and enhance wildlife habitat, and protect natural resources. Golf courses from the United States, Australia, Canada, Central America, Europe and Southeast Asia have also achieved certification in the program.
