AST names director of engineering

Shorabi, who holds a U.S. patent and has one pending, joins the soil sensor manufacturer.

Katayoun “Kathy” Sohrabi, Ph.D., has been named director of engineering at Advanced Sensor Technology (AST), an environmental technology company that designs, manufactures and markets wireless soil sensor systems. An electrical engineer, Sohrabi brings nearly 10 years of experience and patented technology in wireless network design and development to AST's team of industry-leading agronomists and engineers.

“Kathy has an impressive technical background including extensive experience developing wireless mesh networks, which are self-contained data monitoring systems that, before AST, had never been commercially utilized in an outdoor environment,” says Walt Norley, president and c.e.o. of AST.  “As director of engineering, we're confident Kathy will be an instant contributor to the technical team as we continue to pioneer protection and conservation technologies for the turf, landscaping, agriculture and environmental industries.”

An expert in networking and access protocols for low power, low cost, ubiquitous sensor nets, Sohrabi holds a U.S. patent for mesh and multihop networks and has one patent pending on coexistence to eliminate interference among collocated wireless networks.
