Roslyn, Wash. – The Prospector Course at Suncadia and Arnold Palmer hosted a special exhibition to formally christen the year-old design.
“Each hole at the Prospector Course presents a distinctive flair that reflects the imagination that Mr. Palmer brought to the game of golf,” says Bill Hunt, managing director of Suncadia. “Prospector will be further testimony to his legacy and all of us at Suncadia are proud to have the opportunity to serve as caretakers of this part of Mr. Palmer’s legacy.”
Prospector, designed by the Palmer Course Design Co., is the first of three golf courses at Suncadia. Only the second original design by Palmer in the State of Washington – and the first he has built since 1987 – Prospector is a par 72 that measures 7,100 yards from the deepest of four sets of tees.
“It was a fantastic, beautiful day. Just super,” says Palmer. “Matt [superintendent Matt Atterberry, who caddied for Palmer during his round] has done a tremendous job out here.
“This is one of the greatest sections of the country to build a golf course with the firs, the various types of pines and the different seasons,” he adds. “This is just a perfect place to come play golf and enjoy the Northwest.”
The over 6,000-acre Suncadia resort community is located on the Cle Elum River in Central Washington’s Kittitas County, just 80 miles from Seattle via I-90.
Grasses include bent grass on the greens, blue and rye grasses on the fairways and in the rough, and fescue in the deep rough. Drought-resistant grasses require a minimal amount of water, one of several measures that exemplifies the course design’s sensitivity to the environment and its surroundings.
