MAST Construction Services has been tapped to serve as the Club’s Owner’s Representative in erecting the new three-level clubhouse designed by North Palm Beach, Fla.-based Peacock and Lewis Architects and constructed by Weitz Golf International, also of North Palm Beach.
According to Lee Karlin, project executive, MAST Construction Services, who is managing the project, Alpine, which opened in 1931 and was voted ‘Club of the Year in the Metropolitan Area for 2006 by the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association, is a private family-oriented Club, situated on 200 rolling acres only 25 minutes northwest of New York City. The new clubhouse, to replace the old one, is designed as a traditional northeastern stone-clad early 20th century manor home, so as to be architecturally consistent with many of the homes in the surrounding Bergen County area.
The clubhouse will feature two state-of-the-art kitchens to support the club’s formal and casual dining operations with room for over three hundred members and guests. The expansive men’s and women’s locker rooms will offer steam rooms and private massage rooms along with spacious social areas. Atlanta-based Image Design, Inc. is designing the Clubhouse interiors, which will feature extensive millwork, new furniture and artwork. The project also includes five new Har-Tru tennis courts, a new swimming pool complex, as well as a playground for members and their families.
“With our long-term vision for the club, our members all look forward to enjoying a traditionally styled clubhouse with modern amenities that will enhance the community and truly complement our golf course” says Robert Hershan, president of the club.
Construction, which began late last year, is expected to be completed by May 2007. Alpine is one of A.W. Tillinghast’s originally designed courses. Recognized as one of the world’s foremost golf course architects, many of Tillinghast’s design principles were based on famous courses in Scotland such as St. Andrew’s. Aldecress Country Club, Alpine’s original name, was, according to Tillinghast, “the toughest course to build” that he ever encountered of the hundreds of golf courses that he designed and constructed.
