Acelepryn grub applications control caterpillars

Research shows superintendents using the lowest grub control label rate achieve high rates of fall armyworm and black cutworm control.

DuPont Professional Products revealed two years of university data that shows just one application of DuPont Acelepryn liquid turf insecticide at the lowest grub control label rate has the added benefit of providing residual control of caterpillars.

When applied using the grub control rate at 8 fluid ounces per acre, Acelepryn insecticide provides an average of 97.6 percent control of fall armyworms and black cutworms when evaluated 12 to 18 weeks after treatment, according to the research cited by Pat Vittum, Ph.D in the University of Massachusetts Extension Turf Program: Management Update in May 2009.

The extended residual effect of Acelepryn from a grub control application means that golf superintendents can save time and money by reducing their turf applications needed to control surface feeders.

“One application of Acelepryn lasted all summer long and took away my worry of treating the greens every month for cutworm,” said Jim Evans, superintendent at The Dormie Club in Pinehurst, N.C. “One application in the spring is a no-brainer; it saves a bundle in time, which is key when you have a small crew of five guys trying to build and maintain a course. Acelepryn also fits in well with our efforts to maintain an environmentally sensitive course.”

Acelepryn is designed to control white grubs and other turf-damaging pests on a wide range of sites such as residential and commercial lawns, public turf sites including golf courses, athletic fields, parks and playgrounds as well as landscape ornamentals -- including trees, shrubs, flower, foliage plants and groundcovers.

“We’re thrilled to have such thorough, independent data showing the far-reaching benefits of Acelepryn,” said Mike McDermott, global business leader – DuPont Professional Products. “Our customers can benefit from the long-term performance and broad spectrum control of Acelepryn, as well as its exceptional environmental attributes.”

Acelepryn is another example of DuPont’s ongoing commitment to develop products that are highly efficacious and have an improved environmental profile. Classified as reduced-risk by the EPA for applications to turfgrass, Acelepryn has a mode of action different from other turf insecticides. It has been tested in independent studies and proven to have minimal impact on beneficial arthropods, birds, fish, bees and mammals. Acelepryn also has the lowest currently known approved application rate for white grub control, an active ingredient with the lowest known water solubility of any white grub control product and a favorable environmental and toxicological profile. It is available in a liquid formulation, a granular formulation and on fertilizer.
