Silverado Resort and Spa names Jon Vesper director of golf

Vesper will oversee maintenance of two championship courses.

Silverado Resort and Spa has named Jon Vesper, a 22-year PGA member and 30-year golf industry veteran, as its new director of golf. In addition to overseeing maintenance and upkeep of Silverado’s two championship golf courses and practice facilities, Vesper will also manage Silverado’s golf operations and programming and lead preparations for the PGA Tour’s Frys.com open, set to visit Silverado Oct. 12-18.

“The opportunity to lead the golf program at a resort like Silverado Resort and Spa – a PGA tour venue with tremendous history – it’s what you hope for when you start out in this business,” Vesper said. “The level of commitment from the owners and members is obvious as soon as you step on the property. “

Vesper joins Silverado from the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort and Spa in Palm Springs, Calif.  where he held the director of golf position, overseeing two championship courses, the Pete Dye Course and the Gary Player Signature Course. Prior to that, Vesper was the director of golf at the Westin La Paloma Resort and Spa in Tucson, Ariz.

“Jon’s a tremendous asset and we’re happy to have him,” said John Evans, Silverado Resort and Spa’s managing director. “His experience managing true destination golf resorts in Southern California and Arizona will benefit both our members and visitors as we look to continue our property-wide renovations over the next several years.”

Vesper replaces Silverado’s former director of golf Tim Geesey, who returned to Arizona as general manager of FireRock Country Club in Fountain Hills. During his five years at Silverado, Geesey helped oversee a redesign of the famed North Course and was instrumental in bringing the PGA Tour back to Napa alongside resort owner and World Golf Hall of Fame member Johnny Miller.
