Nakoma Golf Resort and Spa hires Wes Hull as superintendent

Hull will lead maintenance of The Dragon course.

Gearing up for its April 24, 2015 opening date of The Dragon, Nakoma Golf Resort and Spa has hired Wes Hull as golf course superintendent of the 18-hole, par-72 championship course. In this role, Hull will lead golf course maintenance and landscaping while upholding the new ownership’s mission to keep the course in top player-friendly form.

“This is an exciting time for the team at Nakoma,” Nakoma general manager Dan Gallagher said. “When The Dragon opens for the 2015 season, we’ll reveal new updates to the course, including renovations to select holes and new resort accommodations. With Hull’s addition, we’ll have an expert specifically charged with ensuring the player’s experience at The Dragon is top priority.”

Hull has been in the golf industry for nearly 24 years. He grew up and started his career in northern California, working at Alta Sierra Country Club, Nevada County Country Club and gained a career highlight by working for the Pebble Beach Company. While living in Monterey, Hull completed his bachelor of science in horticulture and obtained a certificate in turfgrass management from Penn State University. In 2003, Hull moved from Monterey to northern Nevada to build and grow the Somersett Golf & Country Club in Reno, and later served as general manager at Sunridge Golf Club in Carson City.

Hull had previously played The Dragon and fell in love with its beauty. He had even made it a “bucket list” item to work at the majestic course. “I’m looking forward to working with the team at Nakoma, and sharing my professional background with the group to create great turf conditions and excellent playing for the guests,” Hull said.
