"Buck it Up" for U.S. military families

New initiative, an off-shoot of its well-known GreenCare for Troops program, will raise money for scholarships and expansion of its volunteer service program.

Project EverGreen is starting a new program through its GreenCare for Troops Program called “Buck it Up” for Military Families. The program runs from now through May 16 – Armed Forces Day in the U.S.

"Buck it Up" is a chance to give thanks to U.S. military families, and gives consumers from urban to suburban to rural areas a chance to give $1 (or $5 or $10) to Project EverGreen’s GreenCare for Troops program. Proceeds will go to creating a scholarship program for military family members seeking a career in the horticultural industry and to increasing PE’s infrastructure to better handle the 7,500 military families and 2,100 volunteers participating in GreenCare for Troops.

"Buck it Up" is a great opportunity for superintendents and its members to strategically partner with Project EverGreen in its efforts to preserve and enhance green spaces in our communities today and for future generations.

Here's how you can get involved:

• Join with Project EverGreen and make a donation individually, through your company and/or your customers. We will provide the simple single sheet about the promotion for you at your business/office, etc. You provide the bucket/container to hold the $1 or $5 or $10 donated by your customers/employees, etc. You can start immediately to collect donations or select a time in April to begin the program, concluding on May 16 – Armed Forces Day.
• Ask your club or organization to match the donations of its employees.
• Logistically it’s simple. Collect the money (of course you’re on your honor), put it in your bank account, write us a check (payable to Project EverGreen Buck it Up) and send it to us at: Project EverGreen, 120 Main St. West, PO Box 156, New Prague, MN 56071.

Project EverGreen supporters include those who serve consumers daily through maintenance of green spaces – from landscape contractors to lawn care operators, golf course superintendents, irrigation contractors, turf producers, sports turf managers, professional turf maintenance specialists and others.

Project EverGreen’s signature program is GreenCare for Troops, a national program that provides free lawn and landscape service to military families where the major breadwinner is serving overseas. It is three years old, helping 7,500 military families through a national network of 2,200 volunteers.
