Sweeper Debris Protection

Two Wiedenmann Super 600 Vacuum / Sweepers are being used to clean up the scalped-down debris on the Celebration Bermudagrass roughs — to guard against Bermudagrass mites — at 36-hole The Oaks Club in Osprey, Florida, during its Heron Course summer closure. To help prevent the grass clipping debris from blowing around, 1⁄8”- thick rubber mats were bolted to the rear of the sweepers using galvanized sheet metal screws and washers along the tops and sides. It took about one hour to install the mats on each one costing less than $50 each. Director of greens and grounds Gregory Jack, equipment manager Jason Ziegler and Heron Course superintendent Josh Postolese enjoy performing cultural practices at the club. Eagle Course architects Arthur Hills, Steve Forrest and Shawn Smith, and Heron Course architect Jason Straka have designed two diverse modern classics.

Unique Selling of Snacks
The soda pop and snack vending machines were not being used very much in the maintenance building by the golf course maintenance staff at 36-hole The Oaks Club in Osprey, Florida. The chocolate candy bars in the snack machine were very warm and on the verge of melting and the other snacks did not hold up well because of the heat and because it was not refrigerated. The soda pop machine did not have many choices that the staff would purchase, and it was rarely used. One of the hourly staff members spoke to the director of greens and grounds and received permission to bring in a stainless-steel refrigerator. He then surveyed the staff and asked them what snacks they would enjoy the most. They are sold to the staff slightly above cost and the staff is very happy with the selections and the honor system to pay for them. Director of greens and grounds Gregory Jack, equipment manager Jason Ziegler and Heron Course superintendent Josh Postolese enjoy the snacks as well.
