More than six months in advance of its scheduled opening, Great Shots, a new golf and entertainment venue is Sioux Falls, S.D., has its general manager.

Jonathan Buckley, PGA, will oversee Great Shots, a new 54,000-square-foot year-round golf and entertainment venue scheduled to open in November in South Dakota’s most populous city. It will be located in the Sanford Sports Complex and managed by Troon.

Buckley opened and managed a trio of Topgolf facilities from 2012 until 2016 in Houston, Scottsdale and Oklahoma City, and has previously worked as the director of golf at Sterling Country Club, a semi-private club in Houston, Texas. His resume also includes leadership positions at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland, Texas, where served as the head golf professional, and at The Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas, as the first assistant golf professional.

As for the facility itself, Great Shots will feature 60 hitting bays with individually-controlled radiant heaters, each designed for as many as 10 golfers hitting out to a 90 yard-wide by 250-yard long artificial turf field. Using radar-based technology, golfers will be able to track their shots, including club-head speed, exit velocity and distance — and even be able to turn their golf experience into an interactive video game.

“Golf and entertainment venues like Great Shots are gaining popularity across the nation and most of that is driven by non-golfers,” Sanford Sports president Kevin Lampe said. “We’re thrilled to have Jonathan leading our operations at Great Shots and believe his experience in managing similar entertainment venues will be invaluable.”
