The American Society of Golf Course Architects recently welcomed three new members to its ranks with Gary Browning, Kipp Schulties and Joel Weiman joining the organization.

Browning, of Calgary, Alberta, is the founding principal of Browning Design Inc., a landscape architectural and golf design firm. His background in landscape architecture coupled with his graduate degree in environmental planning has made him a strong designer with an emphasis on environmental values. Browning’s 30-plus years of experience has included award-winning minimalist designs in the Western Canadian Rocky Mountains, including a full restoration of the 36-hole Kananaskis Country Golf Course, originally designed by Robert Trent Jones.

Schulties, of Jupiter, Florida, began his design career with the Couples/Bates Golf Design firm after earning his civil engineering degree from Purdue University. A year after finishing an MBA in finance at the University of Miami, he opened his own firm, Kipp Schulties Golf Design, Inc. Along with design, Schulties can handle site analysis, production and analysis of feasibility studies, financial analysis contract negotiation, and administration and overall project management.

Weiman, of Jessup, Maryland, is a landscape architecture graduate of Cornell University and has been senior designer with McDonald Design Group since 1998, building a team of design professionals who focus their efforts along the east coast of the United States. Weiman provides a design/build approach to golf course design and construction that is inspired, responsive, thorough and cost effective.

Candidates for ASGCA membership complete a rigorous, multi-phase application process that includes peer review of completed projects, discussions with project owners and a personal interview to assess the candidate’s professional capabilities.
