Smart Guided Systems announced the release of its $7,500 Android-based GPS precision spraying add-on kit at the 2018 Golf Industry Show in San Antonio.

Former golf course superintendent at Hawthorns Golf and Country Club in Fishers, Ind., now president of Turf Innovations, Randy Staton, CGCS, said, "After working with this system for the last few months and the price point of it, I believe a lot of clubs will pay for the unit in one year, and certainly in two years. Using less product with a more uniform application sprayed where you want it with no skips and no overlaps, that is what we are all trying to achieve.”

The Smart Guided Systems precision spraying system utilizes TerraStar GPS satellite technology, allowing a 2-inch level of accuracy and repeatability of any boundary driven once and saved. The system is for use on golf courses, sports fields, baseball fields, racetracks, commercial office buildings, large estates or green areas.

Controlling each nozzle individually on the sprayer reduces overspray and helps avoid skips. The kit includes 2-inch accurate GPS, electronic control unit, wiring harness,
nozzle solenoids (11), Android tablet and a sun shade. Installation takes about an hour. The assembly mounts on the back of the sprayer and only requires a 12-volt power source. After installing the kit, a simple configuration is completed using the Android tablet.
